Theatre in the Pfalzbau
The Theatre in the Pfalzbau on Bismarckstraße is Ludwigshafen's central stage and one of the largest touring theatres in Germany. The sober, modern post-war building houses a large auditorium with well over a thousand seats as well as smaller venues. Without a resident ensemble, the house focuses on top-class guest performances of drama, dance, opera and musicals, and stages its own festivals such as the International Dance and Theatre Days. Many concerts of the renowned BASF cultural series also take place here.
The city's great stage
The Theatre in the Pfalzbau on Bismarckstraße is Ludwigshafen's central stage and ranks among the largest touring theatres in Germany. The sober, modern post-war building houses a large auditorium with well over a thousand seats as well as smaller venues for more intimate formats. Unlike a municipal theatre with a resident ensemble, the house thrives on a constantly changing programme of visiting companies and productions.
Programme & festivals
The schedule features top-class guest performances of drama, dance, opera and musicals, brought in from renowned houses and companies. Its own festivals, such as the International Dance and Theatre Days, set special accents and draw audiences from across the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Many concerts of the renowned BASF cultural series also find their stage here.
Tips for your visit
Because of the touring principle, it pays to check the current schedule, as the programme varies considerably from week to week. Popular dance and musical productions often sell out early, so booking tickets in good time is advisable. The central location near Berliner Platz makes the house easy to reach by bus and tram.
