Ludwigshafen with Kids
Ludwigshafen is surprisingly green and family-friendly. The free Rheingönheim Wildlife Park with wild boar, red deer and lynx is a classic; the sprawling Maudacher Bruch and the historic Ebertpark offer plenty of room to run around; and in summer the Willersinnweiher invites you for a swim. We plan the day so the distances stay manageable and the breaks are child-friendly.
Best time to visit: May to September — in dry weather the day is best spent outdoors
Day 1
A day for the whole family
We start at the Rheingönheim Wildlife Park, have a child-friendly lunch, romp through the Ebertpark in the afternoon and finish by the water depending on the weather.
- 9:30 - 12:00
Rheingönheim Wildlife Park
The wildlife park on the southern edge of the city is nestled in the woods and free of charge. Across roughly 35 hectares, red deer, fallow deer, wild boar, lynx and birds of prey live in near-natural enclosures. Shady forest paths, a large playground and picnic spots turn the morning into an adventure for children.
Tip: Admission is free — bring sturdy shoes and a few snacks for the picnic.
- 12:15 - 13:30
Lunch in Rheingönheim
Near the wildlife park, the Landhaus Rheingönheim serves regional, seasonal cuisine in a quiet dining room or in its idyllic garden — a pleasant stop after the walk through the park.
- 14:00 - 15:30
Maudacher Bruch
This sprawling recreation area in a former loop of the Rhine offers woods, meadows, ponds and a game enclosure. A network of paths invites walking and cycling — plenty of space for little explorers right on the city's doorstep.
- 16:00 - 18:00
Ebertpark or Willersinnweiher
To wind down, head to the historic Ebertpark with its rose garden, ponds, lawns and playgrounds — the city's green lung. On hot summer days a dip in the clear Willersinnweiher, Ludwigshafen's most popular bathing lake, is worth it instead.
- 18:30 - 20:00
Family evening in the Ebertpark
The Pavillon in the Ebertpark sits in the middle of the greenery and offers international cuisine, cake and a large terrace among rose beds and mature trees — relaxed and family-friendly.
