History & significance
The Ebert Park in Friesenheim was laid out for the 1925 horticultural exhibition and remains the largest and most popular city park in Ludwigshafen to this day. The former exhibition grounds became a green lung in the middle of the densely built north of the city. With its mature trees and carefully designed grounds, the park is a piece of 1920s garden art that has outlasted the generations.
What to expect
Wide meadows, ponds, a rose garden and lush perennial beds alternate with shaded paths beneath mighty trees. Playgrounds and sunbathing lawns make the park a magnet for families, while joggers and walkers appreciate the generous network of paths. On the edge stands the Eberthalle, a venue steeped in handball tradition and used for all manner of events.
Tips for your visit
The park is worth visiting in any season, but shows its loveliest side in early summer with the rose garden in bloom. Families do best to allow time for the playgrounds and a picnic on the sunbathing lawns. Anyone wanting to combine sport and culture can pair the walk with a look at the events programme of the adjacent Eberthalle.
