Location & Character

Mundenheim lies in the south of Ludwigshafen between the inner city, the railway areas and the southern BASF site. As one of the oldest districts it has its own village core and long-grown residential streets that give it a self-contained face despite its closeness to industry and traffic arteries. Its character is down-to-earth and shaped by the coexistence of housing, commerce and transport.

History & Change

Mundenheim was an old village that grew into a working-class district with the rise of the industrial city and the nearby BASF. Its location around the main station underlined its role as a place to live and work for the employees of the plants. This working-class and industrial history is still palpable today in the structure and the self-image of the quarter.

Life in the District

Around Saarlandstraße and the village core, Mundenheim maintains a down-to-earth quarter life with shops, eateries and clubs. The short connection to BASF, the railway and the inner city makes the district attractive for commuters.
